Some of you know that Rick Wright – pastor of Church of the Nations – is teaching a class at Louisiana State University this year as an adjunct instructor. His class is Monday through Thursday mornings in Coates Hall near the Student Union. That means he is on campus four days a week! He would love to get together with internationals for lunch. Does not have to be at a restaurant – we can bring our own lunches and meet somewhere. And he can come to where you are. Classroom, office, lab – wherever.
If you would like to him to come meet you for lunch send him an email at Rwright@Ubc-br.org or call him on his cell phone (number below). He can meet people for lunch any day except Monday.
It is one of the greatest foods in the world. And one of the greatest American inventions.
Pizza.
This Friday we do not have our normal English Conversation. Instead we have a pizza making party. And Chef Richard (pronounced ree-shard) will teach everyone how to make pizza! We will make and eat pizza. Everyone who comes will make their own little pizza. And yes children can come to this event – although there is no childcare so please watch them and do not let them play outside by themselves. This is a good event for people who do not need or normally come to English Conversation.
The pizza making party will start at 7:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall at University Baptist Church. Please note this is thirty minutes earlier than English Conversation.
(Quick note. There is also a wedding at the church this Friday. Please do not go near the wedding and go only into the fellowship hall. Thank you!)
You can drive yourself or ride on the church bus which will pick up from:
- Edward Gay apartments at 6:30 p.m.
- Tiger Towers at 6:33 p.m.
- Nicholson bus stop at 6:40 p.m.
- Tigerland at 6:45 p.m.
- Brightside at 6:48 p.m.
Please allow 5-7 minutes for the bus to arrive because of weather or traffic.
Directions (from Louisiana State University):
- Drive southeast away from the university on Highland Road
- Drive past Lee Drive
- Turn left onto Leeward Drive – look for the electronic sign for University Baptist Church

Jiaozi. Mandu. Momo. Gyoza. Dumplings.
We plan to celebrate the Lunar New Year early with our annual dumpling party on Friday, January 29 starting at 6:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall of University Baptist Church. We will make… cook… and eat dumplings! Along with a few cold dishes and desserts. What makes this activity different and special is that it is organized and led by internationals. Although Pastor Rick will of course drive the bus for people who need a ride.
We need people who would like to help organize this. That includes buying and preparing dough and ingredients, making wrappers, cooking, cleaning up. The church will cover the cost of food – so please save your receipts.
Update: We already have a team of several people who are coordinating this activity. But they need more helpers! Please call or email Rick Wright at rwright[at]ubc-br[dot]org or 225-766-7474 ext 222 if you want to help with this fun delicious evening.
This activity is for (1) people who participate in our Friday or Sunday activities and (2) their families and (3) new internationals that would like to learn more about Church of the Nations. Children are welcome – but parents must watch and be responsible for them!
You can drive yourself to the church – turn into the first parking lot where the fellowship hall is. Or you can ride on the church bus which picks up from:

- Nicholson bus stop at 6:05 p.m.
- Tigerland (let Rick know exactly where) at 6:10 p.m.
Yes this means we arrive at the party a little late. But it will not make much of a difference. We should be finished and taking people home by 8:00 p.m.
Our Sunday schedule for Bible study and worship will be different this Sunday, August 30. Our schedule will return to normal the next Sunday, September 06.
This Sunday, August 30 our schedule will be:
