Movie night! then meet new pastors this Friday

Small change of plan.

Because we do not have English Conversation in May – why not have a movie night? That way people can come and have fun and then we can meet the new pastors of University Baptist Church.

We invite you to movie night this Friday starting at 6:30 p.m. (a little earlier than other movie nights) in the chapel. We will turn the chapel into a movie theater! There will be free drinks and snacks including delicious popcorn. We have not decided which movie yet but probablyMegamind“. Something that is fun and funny for both children and adults. Children are welcome.

You can drive yourself or you can ride on the church bus which will pick up at:

  • Edward Gay at 6:15 p.m.
  • Alaska at 6:17 p.m.
  • Tiger Towers at 6:18 p.m.
  • Nicholson at 6:20 p.m.
  • Tigerland at 6:25 p.m.
  • Brightside bus stop at 6:28 p.m.

Please allow 5-7 minutes for the bus to arrive because of weather or traffic.

And then – Many of you know that University Baptist Church supports Church of the Nations. And for more than a year University Baptist Church has not had a pastor. But they have found two excellent ministers – Mike Massar and Griff Martin – that we hope will become co-pastors. They will be here this week to visit and meet people and to speak to the church on Sunday. And Church of the Nations has a chance to visit with them this Friday May 13 at 8:15 p.m. in the chapel. There will be some light snacks and drinks.

We understand the end of the semester is a busy time for many of you. But if you have time we would love for internationals and Americans to have a chance to meet these two people and to share with them about Church of the Nations.

(Think of it this way. Church of the Nations is like a university department and Pastor Rick is the chairperson. The pastors of University Baptist Church are like deans of the university – Rick will work for them and with them.)

*Different Sunday morning schedule* this Sunday May 15

We will have a different Sunday morning schedule this Sunday May 15.

Do you know statistics? Short term job available

Someone who has been part of Church of the Nations is finishing her doctoral dissertation and has asked if there are people who know statistics. She has short term work available for people who can use statistics to help her analyze research data.

Please contact Rick at Rwright[AT]Ubc-br[DOT]org or 766-9474 ext 222 if you are interested. He will put you in touch with this graduate student.

No English Conversation this Friday April 01

Our next English Conversation time will be Friday April 08. But we will have a movie night this Friday instead of English Conversation.

No English Conversation this Friday January 07

We will not be able to start English Conversation again this Friday January 07.

The simple reason is that is the night of the Cotton Bowl football game between Louisiana State University and Texas A and M University. Almost every American in Baton Rouge will be watching the game – including host families and teachers and church bus drivers. It is not a good night for English Conversation.

But we will start again next Friday January 14. We look forward to seeing you then! And also we look forward to seeing some of the new people that you invite.

Different Sunday morning schedule – December 12, 19 and 26 only

We will have a different Sunday morning schedule on December 12, 19 and 26:

  • Bible study at 9:15 a.m.
  • Worship at 10:30 a.m.
  • The bus will pick up people starting at Edward Gay apartments at 8:50 a.m.

Church of the Nations will join with University Baptist Church in the “big sanctuary” for special Christmas music on Sunday December 12.

Please note we have a normal schedule – Bible study at 10:20 a.m. and worship at 11:15 a.m. – on Sunday December 05 and Sunday January 02!

No English Conversation until January 2011

Church of the Nations takes a break from English Conversation during December because it is such a busy month – with exams and projects and graduation and Christmas activities.

See you again in January 2011!

Daylight Savings Time ends this weekend – change your clocks before Sunday

Make sure you move your clocks one hour backwards before you go to bed Saturday night.

Or else you will be one hour early for every activity on Sunday.

No English Conversation this Friday November 05

Instead we hope you will join us for:

  • Movie night this Friday at 7:00 p.m.
  • Regular activities and free lunch this Sunday starting at 10:30 a.m.
