“Yo ho!” Come to the New York Opera with us! Saturday October 09

Three times last year Church of the Nations took a group to enjoy the opera. “Turandot” by Puccini. “Carmen” by Bizet. “Armida” by Rossini. Eight to twelve people came each time and enjoyed the performance very much.

Do not miss the new production of “Das Rheingold” by Wagner by the New York Metropolitan Opera this coming Saturday October 09 starting at 12:00 noon.

Two unparalleled artists join forces to create a groundbreaking new Ring for the Met: Maestro James Levine and director Robert Lepage. The cycle launches with Das Rheingold, the prologue to Wagner’s epic drama. “The Ring is not just a story or a series of operas, it’s a cosmos,” says Lepage, who brings cutting-edge technology and his own visionary imagination to the world’s greatest theatrical journey. Bryn Terfel sings the leading role of Wotan for the first time with the company, heading an extraordinary cast.

This will be a live broadcast from New York City. We will go to the Citiplace movie theater on Corporate Boulevard at 11:30 a.m. You can meet us there or ride on the church bus which will pick up from:

  • Highland Plantation/Duplantier at 11:00 a.m.
  • Edward Gay apartments at 11:10 a.m.
  • Nicholson bus stop at 11:15 a.m.
  • (Tigerland – if someone asks me to pick them up there – at 11:20 a.m.)

Please eat lunch before you come. We ask for $10 to help with the cost of the tickets. Please let Rick Wright know if you want to come by Thursday October 07 so he can purchase enough tickets.

No English Conversation or regular Sunday activities this week

Church of the Nations will not have English Conversation this Friday September 24. Also we will not have our regular Sunday morning Bible study or worship this Sunday September 26. The church bus will not be able to pick people up. This is because most of us will be at the camping trip Saturday and Sunday.

However  we encourage people who do not go with us on the camping trip to come for worship and Bible study with University Baptist Church:

  • Traditional worship (similar to Church of the Nations) in the “big sanctuary” at 9:15 a.m.
  • Bible study at 10:30 a.m.
  • “The Journey” (more relaxed style of worship) in the “big sanctuary” at 11:30 a.m.

Please visit www.Ubc-Br.org for more information.

Please remember that we return to our regular activities the next week. Bible study, worship, and free fellowship lunch on Sunday October 03.

No movie night this Friday, September 03

We are sorry but we will not be able to have Movie Night this Friday September 03. Basically we could not find a movie that (1) is fun for adults as well as children and (2) is no more than 2 years old. However some very good movies will be on DVD in October and November so we hope to have Movie Night during those months.
