Two times we have enjoyed visiting the opera! First “Turandot” by Rossini. Then “Carmen” by Bizet.
And now “Armida” by Gioachino Rossini!

This mythical story of a sorceress who enthralls men in her island prison has inspired operatic settings by a multitude of composers, including Gluck, Haydn, and Dvor?ák. Renée Fleming stars in the title role of Rossini’s version, opposite no fewer than six tenors. Tony Award winner Mary Zimmerman returns to direct this new production of a work she describes as “a buried treasure, a box of jewels.” The fanciful and magical tale, Zimmerman says, “has an epic, enchanted quality and a tremendous visual element.”
In other words the story of a magical woman who keeps men as happy prisoners on her island. Sounds like fun!
Church of the Nations will take another group to enjoy the opera on Saturday, May 01 starting at 12:00 noon. We will watch the New York Metropolitan Opera perform “Armida” by Rossini. This will be a live broadcast from New York City.
You can meet us at the Citiplace movie theater on Corporate Boulevard at 11:30 a.m. or you can ride on the church bus which will pick up from:
- Highland Plantation/Duplantier at 11:00 a.m.
- Edward Gay apartments at 11:10 a.m.
- Nicholson bus stop at 11:15 a.m.
- (Tigerland – if someone asks me to pick them up there – at 11:20 a.m.)
We encourage you to eat lunch before you come. Please bring $10 to help with the cost of the tickets. (Or you can bring the coupons that the movie theater gave us after “Turandot” if you still have them.) I need to know by Thursday April 29 if you would like to come so that I can buy enough tickets!
This Sunday April 11 we return to our regular schedule and activities. We offer:
