Did you want to come to the opera in November but could not make it? Are you sad that you missed the wonderful performance of “Turandot” by Giacomo Puccini? Would you like to spend only $10 for an afternoon in New York City?

Church of the Nations will take another group to enjoy the opera on Saturday, January 16 starting at 12:00 noon. We will watch the New York Metropolitan Opera perform the famous opera “Carmen” by Bizet. This will be a live broadcast from New York City.
You can meet us at the Citiplace movie theater on Corporate Boulevard at 11:30 a.m. or you can ride on the church bus which will pick up from:
- Highland Plantation/Duplantier at 11:00 a.m.
- Edward Gay apartments at 11:10 a.m.
- Nicholson bus stop at 11:15 a.m.
- (Tigerland - if someone asks me to pick them up there - at 11:20 a.m.)
We encourage you to eat lunch before you come. Please bring $10 to help with the cost of the tickets. (Or you can bring the coupons that the movie theater gave us after “Turandot”.) I need to know by Thursday if you would like to come so that I can buy enough tickets!
Many churches have a special worship gathering on Christmas Eve - rather than on Christmas Day. One of the most beautiful and moving worship gatherings of the year is on Christmas Eve. We encourage you to join us Thursday December 24 at 6:00 p.m. in the “big sanctuary” of University Baptist Church.
There will be Bible readings and special music and singing Christmas songs. At the end of the worship time we all light candles to represent the birth of Jesus Christ the Son of God whom the Bible calls the “light of the world”.
Pastor Rick is happy to drive the church bus and pick up people who want to come to this special time.
- Highland Plantation at 5:20 p.m.
- Edward Gay apartments at 5:25 p.m.
- Nicholson bus stop at 5:30 p.m.
- Tigerland (please let me know where) at 5:35 p.m.
We will have our regular Sunday morning Bible study and worship on Sunday December 27.
One of the most moving and beautiful experiences of the year - Church of the Nations takes a group for the music and singing at downtown Baton Rouge churches. It begins at Mt Zion First Baptist Church at 6:00 p.m. - and then we walk to the next church for more music and singing. There are five churches - but we will go only to the first three. The third and last church we will go to is First Presbyterian Church.
Pastor Rick will pick up people who want to come starting at Edward Gay apartments at 5:00 p.m. We will park at First Presbyterian Church and then walk to Mt Zion. We want to be there before 5:30 p.m. because it will be very crowded very quickly.
As I said - this is one of my favorite trips during the year. Many people enjoy it very much. I hope you are able to come with us.
We invite internationals and Americans (involved in Church of the Nations activities) to join us for a special Christmas party on Friday, December 11 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the home of:
Leo and Margaret Stanley
916 Bourbon Avenue, 70808
There will be delicious food, friendly people, and singing Christmas songs. Please note that this party is only for adults - do not bring children. It is for internationals and Americans who participate in our activities (such as English Conversation and/or Sunday morning Bible study and worship) - you might also bring someone new who has just arrived (graduate student, visiting scholar, professor, and so on). If you drive yourself please be careful (1) not to block or park in other houses’ driveways and (2) not to park on the yard/grass in front of other houses.
If you need a ride the church bus can pick you up from:
- Edward Gay at 6:30 p.m.
- Nicholson bus stop at 6:35 p.m.
- Tigerland (please let Rick know where) at 6:40 p.m.
Directions from Louisiana State University:
- Drive southeast along Highland Road
- Turn left onto Duplantier
- At the end of the street turn left then right onto Carriage Way
- Turn right onto Bourbon Avenue
- Look for house 916
- We suggest you park at the “circle” at the end of the street and walk back
Church of the Nations joins with University Baptist Church for a special worship gathering full of singing and music - including a choir and orchestra - on Sunday, December 13 starting at 10:30 a.m. Bible study will start earlier than usual at 9:30 a.m.
Please note the different schedule - only for that Sunday. We go back to our normal schedule Sunday December 20.
The bus can pick people up at the following places and times:
- Highland Plantation at 9:00 a.m.
- Edward Gay at 9:10 a.m.
- Nicholson bus stop at 9:15 a.m.
We look forward to seeing you there!
If you are part of our excellent Choir of the Nations - please join us when we practice this Friday, December 04 starting at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel (or choir room - behind the chapel). Please come if you can and please be on time - we need to use the whole time in order to be ready to sing on Sunday morning.
If you would like to join us - it is fun and a good chance to learn more about music - we always welcome new people. You do not have to be a great singer - you only need to enjoy music and singing.
Rick can pick up people who need a ride:
- Highland Plantation bus stop at 5:25 p.m.
- Edward Gay at 5:30 p.m.
